Jerry Robertson Memorial Scholarship

Maricopa Lodge #5 of the Fraternal Order of Police and Marisol Federal Credit Union join in offering a $1,000.00 scholarship to a deserving graduating senior. This scholarship honors the memory of Jerry Robertson, a man who believed in service to his country and community. Jerry retired as a Lieutenant with the Maricopa County Sheriffs department after 29 years. He was also a Command Sergeant Major in the Army reserves for forty-two years. Jerry was a member of the Credit Union for 40 years where he served on the Credit Union's Board of Directors as Chairman of the Board.

Criteria:

  1. Candidates will submit a 500-word essay on the virtues of morality and service to the United States of America. Essays will be assessed for theme, creativity, originality, grammar, and sentence structure.
  2. Candidates must graduate from high school by July of the current year this scholarship is awarded.
  3. Candidates will be awarded this scholarship upon proof of admission to an accredited College or University (this can include community college or vocational school).
  4. Candidates must be a dependent of an active or retired Arizona Law Enforcement employee, or an employee of Maricopa County, or a veteran of the Armed Service. Candidates must become a member of the MariSol Federal Credit Union at the time of application (all those eligible to apply for the scholarship are eligible for membership to the credit union).
Rules:

1. Candidates will submit the completed packet to the Credit Union on or before February 28th.

The completed packet must contain the following:

  • Scholarship application
  • Essay
  • Copies of the most recent report card
  • Letter from school indicating student will graduate by July
  • Proof of acceptance to a College, University or Vocational School
  • Two letters of recommendation. One letter from a teacher and one from their parent or guardian

2. All written material submitted become the property of the Scholarship Organizations and will not be returned to the candidates. Decisions of committee will be final with no appeal process.
3. Winners will be notified no later than May 31st.
